Change Your Perspective

Multi-disciplinary

Final Major Project

Inform people across England and Wales about Body Dysmorphic Disorder and provide on-demand support and information through the Change Your Perspective campaign.

Challenge:

Over 1,000,000 people in the UK are affected by Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD), a mental health condition that causes obsessive thoughts about self-image. Despite this BDD is misunderstood and often ignored as a symptom or insecurity.

Change Your Perspective aims to inform the public about BDD through its lenticular campaign. Designed using testimonials, the campaign directs viewers to information about BDD and self-help materials designed to guide and support vulnerable people through the first steps of non-professional treatment.

Strategy:

“I COULDN’T SMILE IN PHOTOS”

This campaign uses lenticular imagery to get viewers to physically change their perspective to see another element of the design. When viewed from an angle the advertisements display a quote from a testimonial with related imagery, the image then shifts to display information about BDD and direct the viewer to the associated webpage.

For the non-lenticular posters I used the same hierarchy but changed out the main text for different quotes or facts about BDD. These static posters will be used in areas that don’t have a lot of foot traffic or movement, since the lenticular rely on people moving to see the design change happen.

LENTICULAR PRINTS

Information about BDD, self-help tools and advice are provided through a webpage hosted by Mind, one of the UK’s leading mental health charities. Information provided has been edited to include testimonial stories, advice for yourself or loved ones and self-help worksheets designed using cognitive behavioural therapy techniques. The webpage was designed to fit Mind’s existing layout but using campaign colours and a reimagined navigation system.
